Summer learning challenge day 1 week 1

Three facts i found interesting about Maui

1. I found it interesting that Maui fished up the north island and his waka became the south island.

2. I find it interesting how cunning and mischievous Maui was when he hid away on the boat and used his own blood instead of bait.

3. Karakia are Maori incantations and prayers, used to invoke spiritual guidance and protection. Karakia are generally used to increase the spiritual goodwill of a gathering, so as to increase the likelihood of a favorable outcome. Maui used a karakia to summon a big fish and also strengthen his line and man did he catch a big fish.

  1. Hi Harry

Welcome to the Summer Learning Journey. It's Allie and I will be blogging with you over the summer. You have made a really good start to the programme.

Maui is certainly a bit sneaky isn't he. He really did trick his brothers into him getting to go fishing. If he hadn't of hid on the waka I don't think they would have let him go.
It's quite neat the legend of Aotearoa and how the South Island is the waka and the North Island was fished up!
There are so many really neat myths and legends about Maui.
    Have you read any others?

I am looking forward to reading your posts over the summer.

    Well done Harry

    Until next time

    Allie :)

  2. Kia ora Harry,

My name is Emiely (pronounced "Emily") and along with Allie, I'm another blogger at the Summer Learning journey!

It's great to see you have used interesting words like "cunning", "mischievous" and "summon". What great vocabulary you have! I also like the way you have used numbers for each new fact. This is a very organised way to write your facts. Maybe you could think about adding a picture of Maui and the Giant Fish to make your blog more colourful.

Side note: I think your profile picture is so cool! What did you use to create this picture? How did you add the cartoons to it?

You have made a great start to the Summer Learning Journey. I can't wait to read more of your blogs. Keep up the great blogging!

    Noho ora mai,

    Emiely :)
